What if a student doesn't bring any work with them to the studio session?
Inquire about what topics are being discussed and/or addressed in the class.
REFER to SYLLABUS on Facilitator Resources. What major upcoming assignments are on the class syllabus
“Well, I see that you have ___________ assignment coming up, has your professor talked about this assignment? Would it be helpful if we worked on an outline for this paper?”
Ask the group if anyone else is in the same class, ask student to reflect on one recent activity or discussion from the class.
“Is anyone taking this same course? What did the professor say was due next? Let’s think about what we can do for that…brainstorm ideas?”
Have them do work anyway!! They will have to work on something.
“OK, what other courses are you taking? Let’s see if we can help you plan for any other assignments…”
This is not free time, and the quicker they understand that this time is set aside to HELP them, the better it will be for everyone.
